Planetpal of the Month:

Earthman says:
Please listen to my friends
we need your help
so the earth can mend
We all must try
to care for the planet
trees and animals
and everything in it
We should save our water
try not to waste
keep things clean
not act in haste

February 2: Ground Hog Day
February 2 is chosen because it is half way between our official day of Winter and Spring.
Why Groundhogs? Well, in ancient folklore, hibernating creatures were considered to be able to predict the arrival of Spring!
The way it works is this: If the ground hog sees his shadow (a sunny day) the remaining six weeks of winter would be stormy and cold. If he is rained or snowed on, the rest of the winter would be mild. It's opposite!
Since this idea was brought to the US, it has been altered a bit. But remains much the same as the original myth.

February 14: Valentines Day
Valentine's Day is named after St. Valentine.
Valentine was a priest in Rome when Christianity was a new
religion. The Emperor at that time, Claudius II, believed that married men would want to stay home with their families rather than fight his wars, so he ordered Roman soldiers NOT to marry . Claudius Valentine defied the Emperor's decree and secretly married many young couples.
Valentine was beheaded on February 14th for his practices, which was the eve of the Roman holiday Lupercalia which occurred Feb.. 15.
After his death, Valentine was named a saint. Hence, was the start of ah Valentines day, a day to give our loved ones a gift of cards, chocolate or just one filled with love.
Did you know? In Asia on Valentines Day, women give chocolates to men only...and are reciprocated on White Day in March, when men give chocolates to women....maybe a chocolate company started this tradition!
Planetpals has a sweet gift for you to give! Pick up Valentine Print and Play Crafts to give it to a friend.

The Ancient Ones
I thank the ones
Who watched this land;
Who loved it with their very soul.
Who, with their spirit and their hands,
Did all to make it whole.
The Guardians beneath the sun,
Who turn to watch another day,
To see the earth's sweet peace and light
Ravaged, turned to gray.
