HAVE A PLANETPALS DAY AT SCHOOL!

GREAT Idea from Seattle for classroom recycling!
One of our schools in Seattle, Washington has a PLANETPALS day every Friday.
The school encourages recycling by having the students take responsibility for emptying and compiling classroom and school recyclables. They are involved in the recycle process. Every class has a monitor.
Kids are also encouraged to bring in recyclable ink and cell phones for the recycle program (so the school can earn points) and prizes are given monthly.

Back to School!
Here are a few ways you can help the planet this school year...Remember, every litter bit helps!
- Take your lunch in a reusable lunch box, or cloth bag instead of paper bags..
- Recycle any packaging in your lunch box.
- Pack a cloth napkin instead of paper one. You can reuse it! Just count all your school days...that's how many paper napkins you saved.
- Cover your books in recycled paper bags or wrap... decorate them yourself, they could look fun and you might start a trend!
- Use up last years school supplies before you buy new ones.
- Use the reverse side of scrap paper for your first drafts of writing, art and math projects.
- Keep a "craft box" of discards you think might be handy for class projects during the year...mark it "my craft box" so noone will mistake it for trash! Keep things like empty yogurt containers, elastics, string etc...that might interesting and useful for your art.
- Take the bus or Car pool with friends...have your mom's take turns...It's fun to go to school in groups and you save lots of gas!.
- Ask your teacher to put up Planetpals recycle kits posters to remind everyone at school about recycling.

Great Classroom Project!
Your school or class can earn points and cash...just recycle ink cartridges...
Start a group program at school or work. You will be earning free merchandise in no time! It's a good way to recycle. Be part of this easy and rewarding program.
Every Litter Bit Counts and adds up, too!
Did you know that by recycling ink jet cartridges you are responsible for making a pretty big impact on the environment. It may seem small-but every litter bit counts
- Three and a half quarts of oil are used for every laser cartridge produced.
- Two quarts of oil are conserved for every laser cartridge returned through the Funding Factory Program.
- Two and a half ounces of oil are used for every inkjet cartridge produced.
- Every year over 275 million cartridges are thrown away. In terms of weight, that is equivalent to over 30,500 African Elephants!
- Stacked end to end, cartridges thrown away in one year would cover a distance of over 24,000 miles-enough to circle the earth.
- In the next seven years, if the all laser and inkjet cartridges are saved from landfills, a bridge can be built from the Earth to the Moon-223, 000 miles!
Start an ink jet/sell phone program in your school or organization today!
Recycle ink jets and cell phones earn points and money

International Peace Day :Sept. 21
This day is celebrated to bring awareness to world peace. Be kind to everyone everyday but particularly today!
So, Think of something you can do in your own way to celebrate this important Day. Maybe make a pen pal in a distant country...or reach out to a lonely person in your neighborhood.
Earth is such a beautiful place
with plants, and animals and the human race
vast lush forests and giant blue seas
colorful flowers and big tall trees
deserts of sand and jungles so rare
and millions of creatures, which all live there
Let's work together to keep it safe
a tiny bit of effort is all it takes
to love each other and keep earth clean
be kind and cautious and never mean
always thoughtful and caring, too
It's easy if we remember:

Ozone Layer Day: Sept. 16
A breath of fresh air:
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is Sept. 16. This day is meant to bring awareness to issues about the dissolving Ozone Layer causing holes in the atmosphere..
What are Ozone Holes? They are layers of the atmosphere where the Ozone layer is getting thin. Dangerous amounts of ultraviolet light are able to come through to the earths surface. That's why we need to wear sun screen when possible.
We can help by watching what we put into the air. See BREEZY to learn more.
